Westwood State School is located in the rural shire of Fitzroy, 52 km west of Rockhampton on the Capricorn Highway in the township of Westwood.  It is staffed by a teaching Principal, Administrative Officer, Teacher Aides, Groundsman and itinerate specialized teaching staff, with enrolments fluctuating year to year with around 14-20 students. 

Opened in 1874, Westwood State School consists of two air-conditioned teaching blocks.  The main building houses the classroom, Principal's office, main office and staff room. The second building contains the library and teaching area and an interconnecting wet area between the two buildings.
