Westwood State School is a band 5 primary school (p to 7) located in the rural shire of Fitzroy, 52 kilometres West of Rockhampton on the Capricorn highway in the township of Westwood. The school has been open since 1872 and has a rich and proud history. The school has an active school community and most parents are P&C members. Parents actively participate in fundraising events and volunteer to assist with extra-curricular activities.
Westwood State School has a strong focus on developing and expanding on the basics of literacy and numeracy, in particular reading, writing, number facts and problem solving. Students are supported in their learning through the whole school approach of explicit teaching.
